The TreeSwing is a punk/DIY space and group house outside DC at 6107 43rd St Riverdale, MD 20737. It is the home to four people who are committed to the DIY community, to safe and radical spaces for art and organizing and creativity. We host events from potlucks to shows to workshops to meetings. We do events in our free time after coming home from our jobs because we are passionate about providing a space for small touring bands with similar ideas and values. The future of our space depends on the care, respect and interest of folks in the community. We want to have shows that aren't centered around alcohol, drugs or violence, and we also want to cultivate a space that all are welcome at. We ask that attendees pay to support the traveling bands and benefit causes that our events fund. We ask for respect in terms of the messages artists are delivering, and promote a hate-free, women/queer friendly environment. We do not accept artists or bands with hateful, sexist, racist, and/or homophobic lyrics. We encourage our guests to meet one another, make themselves at home, approach us about their projects, and use the house as a place to learn how to organize events themselves. We also ask that people be honest and respectful of the risks we run opening up our house and also our neighbors.
